COHEN'S Hotel is more than just a boutique hotel
It is a journey into the past
COHEN’S Hotel is located in a stunning historic building, 130 years old, located in the heart of Haifa at Shderot HaTzionut 26. Originally constructed in 1893 as part of the city’s Templer colony, the hotel remains one of Haifa’s most unique and impressive landmarks.
Over the years, the building underwent a meticulous preservation process that revived its original architectural features. The restoration included the recreation of magnificent ceiling paintings by the Templer artist Johannes Pfender, which are an integral part of the hotel’s artistic and historical ambiance. The combination of the building’s rich history with its modern hospitality atmosphere creates a unique and inspiring experience for guests.

During the renovation and preservation of the building, rare evidence of Templer art was discovered beneath multiple layers of paint—stunning painted ceilings created by the German artist Johannes Pfender.
These artworks have become one of the hotel’s main attractions and are proudly displayed in the central areas of the building.
Carefully preserved, these paintings tell a rich cultural and historical story, with every detail reflecting the era and the unique creativity of the time. Today, hotel guests can admire this art while enjoying their stay, experiencing the profound connection between history, architecture, and art.
Johannes Pfender, the renowned Templer painter, played a significant role in the artistic design of many buildings in Haifa during the 19th and 20th centuries. His stunning ceiling paintings in the German Colony buildings, including COHEN’S Hotel, stand as a testament to his artistic vision.
Throughout his work, he created ceilings adorned with geometric patterns, religious themes, and symbolic motifs, which have become one of the hallmarks of historic Templer architecture.

The Templer community in Haifa was originally established by immigrants from Germany in the late 19th century as part of their mission to build colonies across the Land of Israel. This community significantly influenced the cultural and architectural development of the city.
COHEN’S Hotel, located in one of the buildings constructed by the Templers, underwent a meticulous preservation process that brought Johannes Pfender’s original paintings back to life.
The paintings discovered beneath layers of old paint now serve as a major attraction for many guests who visit the hotel to experience the unique blend of history, art, and modern luxury.
Pfender’s artwork not only reflects his personal vision but also offers a glimpse into a pivotal era in Haifa’s history, when the Templer community played a central role in shaping the city’s development.
